I’ve been working away on a couple of card ranges, I had the idea to do this a couple of years ago but I’ve only just got around to it.
Vegetable seed cards:
Cards with my vegetable illustrations hand cut and mounted onto recycled card with a pack of seeds inside and instructions on the back. Here’s the beetroot one, there’s also broccoli, cauliflower and carrot!

Bird seed cards:
Cards with my bird illustrations hand cut and mounted onto recycled card, with a small bag of bird seed inside, which can be seen through a hole punched in the front. Here is the Coal tit, there is also a nuthatch, greenfinch and goldfinch.

I will be listing these for sale from the website and my Folksy shop soon and have already taken a small number into the Design Circus shop in West Bridgford, Nottingham.
Well, it’s a new year, I’ve cut off almost a foot of my hair and I’m raring to go again after the christmas madness, I had a really great time at both the Sheffield Craft Candy Christmas fair and the We Make Chelsea town hall fair in London, so a big thanks to the organisers for making them such great events. I have lots of new items to add to the shop over the next couple of days so keep your eyes peeled.
Here’s a couple of photos of my stalls at the craft fairs. The first one was taken at the Sheffield fair and the one below is from the fair at Chelsea town hall.

Saturday Nov 28th & Sunday Nov 29th:
I will be at the Craft Candy Christmas fair in Sheffield
Saturday Dec 5th:
I’ll be at the We Make Christmas fair in London
Come and find me as I will have lots of new items including christmas decorations and badge sets!
I’ve just finished making my first colouring book. It’s an A5 book, with 7 pages of black and white coulour-inable ( I know that’s not a word!) versions of my bird drawings. A great gift for children or grown ups who still like a bit of colouring in!
Design Circus is a pop-up shop in West Bridgford, Nottingham which will be open from October 22nd until December 24th. The shop, is at 4 Albert Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, just off Central Avenue (opposite Marks and Spencer’s). It will feature the work of about 20 local designers and will be well worth a visit! I’ve just taken in some brand new items, including cards of the birdwatching book drawings below.
Just a quick update of what I’ve been up to lately. I’ve been working on a range of bird illustrations which I will be using to make little handmade bird books, as well as more cotton bags, cards and prints. Here are a few little tasters:

We’ve set up a monthly blog giveaway over at the Nottingham Craft Mafia blog. Where this month you can win one of my woodland squirrel brooches! Just click here to enter the competition.

I’ve spent two really sunny days shut away indoors with a hot iron! but I have come up with some colourful new bag designs, here are a couple (blue tit and mandarin duck), the rest are already in the bags section of the shop, with a couple that I’ve still to finish. Hope you like them!

For anyone up in Manchester at the moment, I have lots of my brooches in this exhibition which runs until May 2nd. The exhibition includes work by members of the Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham and sheffield craft mafias.
Matthew has very kindly made some changes to the website which means we now have have a fully functioning shop which I can add items to really easily, so keep an eye out for new things arriving there. There are quite a few new ones in the shop already, such as the Stoat and Dormouse and some new birds but more to come…
We are currently working on getting cards and cotton tote bags into the shop here, so that should be happening soon. I’m also working on a brand new range of purses, here’s a sneak preview:

My brother, David Thomas Broughton has a brand new website, designed by Matthew. He’s also about to start a UK tour so have a look at the shows section to see if he’s playing anywhere near you.

Nottingham now has it’s very own branch of the Craft Mafia, and what’s more we even have a Craft Mafia shop! It is called ‘Get Made’. I took some of my brooches, cards and bags in last week and it is looking really great. It’s just next to the Malt Cross on St James’s Street and is full of a wonderful range of handmade goodies!
